05.23.08Pete Rock to play Good LifeThere are few producers who can credibly claim their beats were jacked by Tribe and Biggie, and Pete Rock is one of them. In an interview last year, the Brooklyn DJ said Q-Tip mixed "We Got the Jazz" after hearing an identical demo in his basement, and another house guest, Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs (several pseudonyms removed), stole "Juicy" from a track on his drum machine. 05.14.08And the winner is… Todd RobertsonThe L.E.D. Munny took home the round 1 victory, but it wasn't a landslide. Competition was fierce on the opening day of the Lab x Mayan Tamang toy bout, and by my account, the winner did not win by much. Props to Todd from LAB for hosting and mad props to Mayan Tamang for putting together the event.

05.13.08The Life Neurotic x LAB (5/3)The fridge was stocked, the beat was steady and the crowd was buzzing at LAB for the Life Neurotic show earlier this month. The store welcomed roughly 100 guests to the opening of its new installation featuring original wall art and pieces by artists Mitchell Mano, Evoker, and Lochness. 05.08.08Toy competition x LAB x Mayan TamangLAB will be showcasing work from 35 local artists this Saturday, 6-9 pm, for round one of Git Dat Munny, a toy-decorating competition and tour. I still can't get into the toy thing, but Jon will be heading out to cover the event for us. Props to LAB for hosting two shows in two weekends!
