Breakfast With The MBTA – Volume I

The yearly clusterfuck that is move-in day brought the city to its knees again this week, and like thousands of other Bostonians, we spent the afternoon cramming a U-Haul truck down one-way streets with the ease of childbirth.

We’ve been stretching out in the new TH headquarters deep in the heart of Allston Rock City, and after catching dinner at Zocalo, brazilian music at Café Belô, and Does It Offend You, Yeah? at the Great Scott, we’re pretty psyched about the new digs.

But it’s been tough to fall asleep at night without the rusty groan of the MBTA to lull us into dreamland. We moved a few miles off the tracks, and now we’re missing the familiar sounds of the public transit system.

The squeal of grinding metal is like a warm glass of milk at night, and who needs an alarm clock when the 5:30 a.m. train rumbles past your window every morning?

It’s like having Dan Grabauskas in your bed, whispering softly across the pillow: cock-a-doodle-doo, motherfucker.

Even if you’re put off by the idea of getting up before sunrise, there’s something reassuring about starting your day with the knowledge that the “destination” of the outbound train is still the same place it was the night before. It’s like having Dan Grabauskas in your bed, whispering softly across the pillow: cock-a-doodle-doo, motherfucker.

If you relocated on Monday and you’re feeling the separation like us, you’ll be glad to learn that we’ve worked out a way for you to take the MBTA with you everywhere you go.

Breakfast With The MBTA: Volume I is a compilation of easy-listening favorites paired with all the familiar MBTA sounds that you’ve been missing, so whether you’re in Dorchester, Dallas, or Dubai, you can take the T with you.

Here’s a sample from the album featuring pan-flute master Gheorge Zamfir:
