Preview: Sondre Lerche x Paradise Rock Club (11/22)
Events, Music | (0)
I am scheduled to interview Norwegian singer/songwriter Sondre Lerche at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday. Lerche is in the middle of an east-coast tour, and as the hour arrives, I hunker down at my desk with a magazine, anticipating the usual problems (late phone call, crappy connection, tight time constraints). But just as I settle in, the phone rings -- right on time.
Mellow and soft-spoken, Lerche chats from New York City, where he is hanging out prepping for his gig at the Bowery Ballroom.
“I’m definitely playing some new songs,” he says. “It’s sort of a mini-tour to try out the new ...
Magic Berry Tripping x Grand
Events | (4)
Photo courtesy NOTCOT It looks like all bets are off in Massachusetts these days. Q2 is on the books, the constitution's been extended to gay people, and now Grand is inviting customers to trip out on magic berries.
They won't produce any mind-melting visuals, but Miracle Fruit will keep even the most experienced Somerville native entertained for an hour. The berries trick out your taste buds for a short time to make bitter and sour foods taste sweet. Take it away, wiki:
The berry contains an active glycoprotein molecule, with some trailing carbohydrate chains, called miraculin.[5][6] When the fleshy part of ...

Banditos Misteriosos Monster Mash-Up
Events | (3)
Boston's "mysterious playmates", the Banditos Misteriosos, will be back in action again on Saturday with a choreographed costume party in Christopher Columbus Park.
Following on the heels of the Revolutionary War Water Gun Battle, the group will hold a flashmob monster mash in Halloween regalia, complete with synchronized dance moves and an instructional mp3.
We love the idea, but we're disappointed the Banditos completely overlooked Thriller in costuming and choreo. The 1983 video is the original flashmob monster jam -- how could you play MJ like that?
A word to the wise: if you're planning to head down for the event, please heed ...
Fort Point Open Studios Sampler
Art, Events | (1)
It looks like Davis Square, the "new South End", has already been usurped by Fort Point as a haven for Boston's artsy types. Over the last couple weeks, every Boston mag has published an article about the restaurants and galleries springing up there.
If you've been looking for an excuse to head out to the East side and see what all the buzz is about, the Fort Point studios will be open to visitors this weekend.
I raced down to 300 Summer Street after work yesterday to catch the tail-end of the group show (Brighton to South Station in 30 min. during ...
Found Footage Festival x Coolidge Corner Theater

The Found Footage Festival will be in town again on Thursday night! We got in touch with founders Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher to find out what's on tap this year. Expect full-frontal nudity...
I've only been forced to watch one corporate training video in my life -- a gem from Staples that likened sexual harassment to driving your car into the side of a mountain.
My tenure at the store was, accordingly, brief.
But I've never forgiven Staples for the hour I spent watching that video. The worst part was that no one else was in the room with me to ...
LP Release: Die Young and Baltimoroder
Events | (0)
We finally got in touch with two of our favorite mixmasters in the city this week, DJ Die Young and Baltimoroder. The duo has a joint LP dropping on vinyl and digital download today, so we asked the beatsmiths what to expect from their new offering.
The good news is that they took the time to give us some really thoughtful answers about their influences, their styles, and the Boston music scene (complete with footnotes).
The bad news is...we don't have time to post the interview on the site before the release. We've been swamped with new projects and a few unforeseen ...
Boldcrits Bike Racing Kicks Off

Boldcrits Bike Racing - Boston from thathottness on Vimeo.
The temptation to use a pun about "getting in gear" is overwhelming right now, but I'll keep it classy:
Boldcrits, a weekly dirt-track bike racing competition that will continue through the end of September, had it's inaugural run yesterday night. About two dozen cyclists turned out to compete for the coveted grand prize, a six-pack of Octoberfest beer courtesy of Wachusett brewing company.
If you've been looking for a new way to prove your athletic prowess, the competition will heat up again next Monday at the William E. Smith playground in Allston, behind Harvard ...
