Breakfast With The MBTA - Volume I

The yearly clusterfuck that is move-in day brought the city to its knees again this week, and like thousands of other Bostonians, we spent the afternoon cramming a U-Haul truck down one-way streets with the ease of childbirth.
We've been stretching out in the new TH headquarters deep in the heart of Allston Rock City, and after catching dinner at Zocalo, brazilian music at Café Belô, and Does It Offend You, Yeah? at the Great Scott, we're pretty psyched about the new digs.
But it's been tough to fall asleep at night without the rusty groan of the MBTA to lull us ...
Karmaloop unveils renovated Newbury store

After hibernating through the winter retail season, streetwear giant Karmaloop reopened its flagship store on Newbury Street this month. The Boston-based clothing retailer, closed since late 2007, reemerged with an updated design meant to embody "Karmaloop culture," a brand image born out of skateboarding, hip-hop, and street art.
"The store was cool, but it was kind of outdated and we wanted the store to represent Karmaloop's cutting edge," said director of grassroots marketing Dennis Todisco.
"It’s a much cleaner atmosphere. It looks way more professional, the product is much better displayed, and we fused all the things Karmaloop’s doing together."

Shaq to Kobe: “Tell me how my a** tastes”

All things being equal, it's been a pretty bad week for Kobe Bryant. After an emasculating loss to the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, Kobe's legacy as a ball-player has been under attack by sports commentators on both coasts.
Rubbing salt into the wound, Bodega released its "No Means No" shirt to international acclaim last week. The garment features a posterized Bryant being rejected by Paul Pierce in the finals.
And domestic life will be uneasy at best this off-season, following reports that the league MVP has been romantically involved with one of the Laker girls (who shares the same name ...

1992: The Dream Team (wikipedia)
In 1989, FIBA, international basketball's governing body, allowed professional NBA players to participate in the Olympics for the first time. Prior to the 1992 Olympics, only European and South American professionals were allowed to play in the Olympics.
The team assembled by USA Basketball for the tournament in Barcelona in 1992, was one of the most illustrious collections of talent assembled in the history of international sport. Of the 12 players on the team, 10 would be named in 1996 among the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History, the NBAs official list of ...
Uncle Sam wants EVERYONE!

In a recent NPR interview, John McCain said he would be in favor of granting citizenship to illegal aliens who serve in the military. I had assumed undocumented immigrants are barred from military service, but I did some research into the topic and found quite the opposite to be true.
According to a 2005 article in the Village Voice, federal law forbids aliens from serving in the military, but only during peace time. All bets are off when the country is at war. Section 329 of the Immigration and Nationality Act states:
"[a]n alien or a noncitizen national of ...
ASCII porn and the birth of the web

If you've been networked long enough to remember the days before AOL and Prodigy, then chances are you remember Bulletin Boards. The BBS (as it was commonly known) was a computer server that users could dial into with their telephone modems. BBS servers were largely useless-- they were slow, confusing, and decorated with really lame ASCII art-- but in those early days, they were kind of exciting. There was, after all, no "internet" to speak of yet, and correspondence chess over a computer connection seemed pretty cool.
The one useful thing about BBSs was that they offered free ...
People Who Endorse Mike Huckabee for President

Just came across the news that pro wrestler Ric "The Nature Boy" Flair has given his much sought-after endorsement to Republican candidate Mike Huckabee (who was at my neighbor's house playing Guitar Hero last month). The announcement inspired me to research who else is on the list of Huckabee's supporters...
