Frustrated People With Teabags: A Photo Tribute

In a massive display of unfocused agitation, about 400 people gathered at Boston Common on Wednesday afternoon to take part in the national Tax Day Tea Party. A separate group also gathered in the North End later in the afternoon.

To be honest, I really don’t disagree with a lot of the points these people are making. Lord knows Massachusetts has one of the most ineffectual networks of sprawling hackery anywhere in the US, and the incumbent candidates who settle into legacy positions at the State House should at least have an opponent when elections roll around.

But really, what was supposed to come out of this? Isn’t a grassroots movement supposed to be growing toward something? Like the GOP leaders who rolled out a numberless budget a few weeks ago, these people aren’t offering any alternatives. They’re just flailing around in front of cameras in Revolutionary War costumes. To paraphrase the Daily Show, you lost — that’s what a shitburger tastes like, so get used to it.
